Let’s take a closer look at how our Cuban Link Chains are made 👀
Step 1: The Design ✒️
Every masterpiece begins with a vision. Each process starts with designing the Cuban Link Chain, considering factors such as length, width and the overall design. We have skilled artisans draw detailed sketches to ensure each link and curve aligns perfectly.
Step 2: Selecting the Material
This step is crucial. At GOLDZENN we use the highest quality gold, crafted from 24K pure gold, alloyed to produce 10K, 14K, & 18K gold standards. Our metals are tested beforehand to ensure it meets the highest standards of quality and purity.
Step 3: Melting the Material
Once we have completed step one and two, the next step involves melting the gold. The gold is melted with a propane torch at extreme temperatures by our skilled artisan, Eddy. Once the gold is melted, it is shaped into a bar and then cooled.
Step 4: The Rolling Mill
This machine reduces the thickness of the gold without compromising the gold's integrity. At GOLDZENN, we prefer this. Unlike other procedures, a rolling mill does not allow any wasted material.
Step 5: Cutting and Shaping
Using specialized tools, artisans meticulously rolled the metal into the desired width and length. Each link is then shaped into a uniform pattern, ensuring consistency throughout the chain. The gold is rolled into a thin wire where it is reheated and then rolled up to create the links that we see on the Cuban Link Chains.
Step 6: Soldering
To ensure the strength and durability of the chain, the links are soldered together. This involves heating the metal and fusing the links at their connection points. Our skilled artisans use high-precision torches to achieve a clean and strong bond, making sure each link is securely attached.
Step 7: Filing and Polishing
Shellac glue (resin mixed with alcohol) is used to secure the Cuban links to the wooden fixture before filing. The filing process is extremely labor intensive as the chain needs to be filed now equally. In the Youtube video you can see that polishing is not as easy as it looks. One has to be careful and skilled when polishing the Cuban chains. The chain is then placed in 24k electroplating solution (this adds a shiny look to the gold if it is not pure 24k gold).
Now our Handmade Cuban Link Chain is complete! Oh wait, we can’t forget about the weigh-in. Once the chain is finished, we weigh it and inform our customers. Handmade jewelry’s weight can vary as they are not machine-made, adding to their unique charm.
